One of my resolutions for this year is trying to get better at documenting my crafting/creative processes. I have lost so many ideas over the last years just because I didn't get round to actually writing them up. And as this blog originally started out as a crafting blog, I will try to return to its roots from time to time.

As mentioned in my last post, my current project is a short wrap jacket designed by Alison Ellen but with lots of added stitches to allow for my size, especially as it is meant to be rather loose-fitting. Work is progressing well, especially as I like working from square to square and having lots of little moments of achievement along the way! I hope that my wool stash will be enough for the sleeves but I have a some short bits of the black alpaca left to spin.

I have also lined up all blue samples of last week below and am now thinking of knitting them up in a similar technique for a chair cover, with other leftover yarn. The chairs at the guild meetings are a bit uncomfortable and for a full morning of spinning my bum could use some soft merino!

OOTD: Sustainable Me

Dress: selfmade

I am still making dresses for a summer that hasn't really showed up yet. After one week of blistering heat it's back to woolly cardigans again, and wearing this white summer dress is an act of defiance. I have just finished it; it is made from thrifted old-fashioned duvet covers with a beautiful white-on-white in-woven leaf pattern.

Obviously I had a bit of help. Hamish insisted on taking care of the leftover fabric:

[OOTD]: Treasure Trove

I have been collecting material for quite some time now but somehow I never got around to posting any of it - so this particular post is a multipurpose one, updating my OOTDs, flower blog an craft project blog all at once!

I made this skirt a few weeks ago, using my favourite, very simple pencil skirt pattern which I have adjusted to my size. The cloth is very stiff (needs no ironing, yay!) and almost like canvas. As I love to wear stripes at the moment I thought I'd combine it with horizontal stripes in the same colour range, just for fun.

Roadside Bouquet

A week ago I picked the flowers for this bouquet from the roadside: gorgeous lupins [insert Monty Python joke here ...] and daisies. It didn't really last long but was quite stunning.

Treasure Trove

Looking through some of my stuff I found my tablet weaving box, full of old samples I made back in the days when I was re-enacting Viking and medieval crafts. Although only one of those samples is actually made from linen and therefore more "authentically" Viking than the others [the blue one], I loved finding them all again and will definitely need to get to grips with this craft once more.

I am a bit late for this month's Fatty Fashion Fun Challenge "Garden Party" but really wanted to participate [can't resist an invitation to any garden, really] - and what a brilliant opportunity to show off my latest sowing project!

I haven't found ANY beautiful cotton summer dresses for fat people in a long while and decided that it was definitely time to make my own. I found this inexpensive printed cotton in our local haberdashery and I love love love it! [Big ice-cream fan, too.]

Yeah, I know. I would have loved to take my pictures for this spring-related post in a sun-drenched garden full of crocus flowers and snow drops - but at the moment Spring 2013 looks like this, and at least the sun is shining! 

A few days ago I finished knitting this cardigan - one of my first posts on this blog was about me combing the dark brown wool for this particular crafting project in August [!]. Making all this wool has been a bit of a hassle and I lost heart throughout the project but now it is finally finished. The pattern for the cream coloured stripe is from a 1980's book and subtly retro and the whole thing is incredibly warm and comfy. 

I brought some snowdrops into the house to celebrate this rather weird kind of Spring - wish you all a fabulous week!

Ja, ich weiß. Ich hätte die Bilder für diesen so ausdrücklich frühlingshaften Post ja auch gern in einem sonnendurchfluteten Garten gemacht, der vor Krokussen und Schneeglöckchen nur so platzt, aber im Augenblick sieht Frühling 2013 noch so aus - aber wenigstens scheint die Sonne!

Vor ein paar Tagen habe ich endlich, endlich, endlich diese Strickjacke fertiggestrickt - einer der ersten Posts [im August!] auf diesem Blog handelte vom Wollekämmen für dieses Projekt. Die Massen an Wolle herzustellen war ziemlich anstrengend und mitten drin hatte ich dann auch überhaupt keine Lust mehr, aber jetzt ist es geschafft! Das Muster für den hellen Streifen stammt aus einem Strickbuch aus den 1980n und ist dementsprechend ein klitzekleines Bisschen retro ...

Und ich habe dann doch einfach ein paar Schneeglöckchen in die Vase gestellt, um den Frühling bei mir zu haben - ich wünsche Euch allen eine wundervolle Woche -

OOTD: Thrifty Monday

I haven't been posting much outfits lately as I am (almost) getting bored with winter now and am out of winter outfit ideas - but then I remembered that my new coat hasn't featured in any of the recent posts yet! It's from my local charity shop and is a perfect fit for 20 Euros - looking at the pictures I took just now in the garden I noticed that, apart from leggings and shoes, everything I wear is either thrifted, a gift or selfmade!

The blue dress from Gudrun Sjöden, a label I adore but can't usually afford (and the clothes officially don't come in my size) is a gift from my bestie who cleared out her clothes cupboard a while back - it's really stretchy and comfortable to wear even if it's a size 20. This reinforces my newfound believe in experimenting with different sizes in the best possible way.

In der letzten Zeit habe ich kaum Outfits gepostet, wahrscheinlich weil ich jetzt langsam echt mal auf den Schnee verzichten könnte und mir kaum noch neue Winterkombis einfallen - aber dann merkte ich, dass meine neue Jacke noch in gar keinem der letzten Posts vertreten war! Es ist aus meinem örtlichen Secondhandladen und für 20 Euro ein echter Glücksfund - als ich die Fotos ansah, die ich vorhin im Garten aufgenommen habe, fiel mir auf, dass, abgesehen von Leggings und Schuhen, alles was ich heute trage entweder secondhand, geschenkt oder selbstgemacht ist - ein total sparsames Outfit!

Das blaue Kleid von Gudrun Sjöden (ein Label das mir unglaublich gut gefällt, das ich mir grundsätzlich aber nicht leisten kann und die Kleider gibt es auch nicht in meiner offiziellen Größe) ist ein Geschenk von meiner besten Freundin, die vor ein paar Wochen ihren Kleiderschrank ausgemistet hat - es ist von einer wundervollen Qualität und sehr bequem zu tragen, auch in Größe 46. Für mich verstärkt das den Glauben an meine neugefundene Experimentierfreude mit Größen auf die allerschönste Weise.

OOTD: Be My Valentine @ Fatty Fashion Fun Challenge

As this month's FFFC's theme is "Be my valentine vs. Celebrate yourself" I thought I would try to do a bit of a mix up. I have worked on this dress to wear it specifically on Valentine's Day to celebrate myself and I am so glad I didn't make a mess of it ... it's made from a green and beige striped cloth bought years ago from Marc Aurel and I just love the sleek feel of it!

On my particular Valentine's Day I ended up wearing mostly nothing as my bestie and I celebrated ourselves by spending a whole day at a sauna and spa - the perfect antidote for this frosty weather.

Das Thema des FFFC in diesem Monat ist "Be my valentine vs. Celebrate yourself" und da dachte ich, ich mach mal da mal einen Mischmasch draus. Dieses Kleid habe ich mir speziell für den Valentinstag genäht, um mich selbst ein bisschen zu feiern und ich bin ja so froh, dass ich es nicht verhunzt hab ... Es ist aus einem grün-beige-gestreiften Hosenstoff von Marc Aurel und fühlt sich wunderbar kühl und geradlinig an!

An meinem tatsächlichen Valentinstag hatte ich dann die meiste Zeit eigentlich gar nichts an, da meine beste Freundin und ich uns einen ganzen Tag lang in einer Saunatherme selbst gefeiert haben - das perfekte Gegenmittel zum frostigen Februarwetter.

Last week we had a lot of snow and I am a bit sad that now that I have the time to post this OOTD almost all of it has vanished again ... this is me wearing my handknitted skirt and experimenting with my hair. Usually I use curlpapers made from Kleenex (just fold each tissue into a triangle and roll it up) and leave them in over night - result!

A few days earlier I went for a walk in the snow and met lots and lots of crows ... I will miss winter.

Letzte Woche hat es hier unglaublich viel geschneit und ausgerechnet jetzt, da ich endlich Zeit habe, dieses OOTD zu posten, ist die ganze Pracht schon wieder weggetaut ... das ist mein selbstgestrickter Rock, aus selbstgesponnener grauer Wolle und ein Haarexperiment. Ich drehe mir meine Papilloten aus Tempotaschentüchern (einfach ein Dreieck falten und aufrollen, darauf die Haare drehen und die Enden verknoten) und lasse sie über Nacht drin - das ist das Ergebnis!

Ein paar Tage zuvor habe ich einen Spaziergang im Schnee gemacht und bin vielen, vielen Krähen begegnet ... ich werde den Winter vermissen.

OOTD: Winterqueen @ Fatty Fashion Fun Challenge

This is my outfit for the first Fatty Fashion Fun Challenge , hosted by the marvelous Miss Temple and 2moro - this month's theme is "Winterqueen". I am chuffed to bits that it snowed this week and I was able to take pictures for this in the snow - it couldn't be much more wintery [not sure that this is a word ... nevermind ...] than this!

For this themed post I chose to wear one of my favourite summer dresses [ironically ... maybe ...] from Ulla Popken, over layers and layers of tights and leggings - and I used this opportunity to do two things I haven't actually done before: a) wear a cardigan over a blazer. I saw this in one of magazines some time ago [I think it was Glamour] and I have always wanted to try this. I think it's a success. Not quite sure about b), the orangey lipstick. I wanted something KA-POW to work against all those blues and the beige blazer. Admittedly, it works for my green eyes and it is definitely a statement lipstick but I don't know if I am brave enough to make this into a habit. I usually don't wear that much lipstick anyway ... we'll see.

Das ist mein Outfit für die ersten Fatty Fashion Fun Challenge, großartigerweise ins Leben gerufen von Miss Temple und 2moro - und das Thema dieses Monats ist "Winterqueen". Passenderweis hat es diese Woche geschneit und ich freue mich diebisch, dass ich die Bilder im Schnee machen konnte, schließlich gibt es in unseren Breiten kaum etwas Winterigeres [ist das ein Wort? Egal ...] als ungefähr fünf Zentimeter Schnee ... yay!

Für diesen Themenpost habe ich eines meiner liebsten Sommerkleider von Ulla Popken an [vielleicht nicht ganz un-ironisch, hüstel], natürlich mit endlosen Schichten von Strumpfhosen und Radlerhosen drunter. Und ich habe diese Gelegenheit genutzt, um mal zwei Dinge zu machen, die ich vorher noch gar nicht ausprobiert habe: a) den Blazer unter der Strickjacke zu tragen. Ich habe das vor einer Zeit in einem der üblichen Hochglanzmagazine gesehen [ich glaube, es war die Glamour] und wollte das schon immer mal ausprobieren. Ich glaube, das mache ich öfter, der Look gefällt mir. Bei b), dem orangigen Lippenstift, bin ich mir da nicht ganz so sicher. Ich wollte was mit KA-WOOM, um ein wenig gegen die potentiell öden Blau- und Beigetöne anzugehen. Die Farbe passt zwar richtig gut zu meinen grünen Augen und das ist ein absoluter Statement Lipstick, aber ich weiß nicht, ob ich mutig genug bin, um das öfter zu machen. Eigentlich trage ich auch gar nicht so viel Lippenstift. Mal sehen.
